Trauma-Focused CBT for Children

We are especially interested in training master’s level social work students interested in working with bereaved individuals. While complicated grief treatment has not yet been adapted for children, we received funding for a pilot program to train masters-level social work students in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for children. TF-CBT is a treatment for children suffering from trauma. It includes a component focused specifically on grief.

The TF-CBT project at Columbia University School of Social Work integrates classroom learning with field experience. Students participating in the project enroll in a two-semester course in TF-CBT and a related course in psychopathology and wellness. Students’ field placements are in agencies with supervisors trained in TF-CBT.
